Hawaiian Honeymoon | Kauai | Day 5

Today was our only full day in Kauai. We had the morning to relax at our beautiful hotel and then a sunset dinner cruise on the Na Pali coast in the afternoon.

Our hotel offered sunrise yoga, so even though I’m not a “yoga person” I decided to go anyway. We went out to a lawn area right overlooking the ocean and had an awesome hour-long yoga session. It was like a really good morning stretch and I really enjoyed it! The sounds of the ocean waves crashing and the gorgeous Hawaii weather in the morning made it a very peaceful experience.

After yoga, I met Jared at the hotel restaurant for breakfast. I ordered a guava mimosa and the waitress came back and said they had to go find champagne. Who offers mimosas on the menu, but doesn’t have champagne for it?! It took almost our entire breakfast for them to “find” champagne and then when I got my drink it wasn’t even good… The food for breakfast was good though!

Jared and I both have shows we watch on Monday nights (Bachelorette for me, Below Deck for Jared), but with the time change, we missed them yesterday. So after breakfast, we found a shady spot by the pool and caught up on our respective shows.

Then, we had to get ready for our dinner cruise. Even though it’s dinner, we had to check-in at the harbor at 2:15 since the cruise is over before sunset. However, this also meant we were hungry before we got to our dinner cruise and needed to eat lunch.

We’d seen a few Jack in the Box fast food restaurants, which we don’t have in Florida. So, we stopped there on our way to the dinner cruise for a quick bite for lunch. After we ordered and got out total, we could not believe how expensive it was! For two burger meals, it was $24!! We get two full Chick-Fil-A meals back home for $12 and that’s considered expensive! I checked our meals when we got them because I wasn’t paying $24 for them to mess our order up, and sure enough the plain cheeseburger I ordered had all kinds of sauce on it.

I went inside the restaurant to get it fixed and no one in there spoke English so they didn’t understand what I was asking for and it took forever to get a new burger. All of that, and the food wasn’t even good. I mean, it was fast food burgers, but for $24 we expected maybe something slightly decent. Talk about a disappointment!

Luckily, we knew we had a much better meal coming up on our dinner cruise (hopefully). We did the Captain Andy’s Star Dinner Sunset Sail. There were two options for dinner cruises through Captain Andy’s and the difference was really just in the menus, so we paid more for our cruise to get better food. The cruise was on a massive sailboat. They took you around Kauai to the Na Pali coast, which has stunning views, but also some rough waters.

I sometimes get motion sick in the car or on boats if it’s bad and I didn’t bring anything for sea sickness on the dinner cruise. I was fine for the first part and then started getting nauseous as we got to the halfway point of the evening. However, once we got out of the rough waters, turned back around, and dinner was served, I was feeling much better. Other people on the boat were not so lucky. A few people around us got boxes to take their dinner to go.

Our dinner was the best meal we had our entire Hawaii trip – hands down. It was a filet (cooked to perfection and seasoned so well), potatoes, carrots and asparagus, and grilled shrimp. It was absolutely delicious! They also started serving alcohol from the open bar when dinner started. I really liked the “sneaky tiki” mixed drinks. For dessert, they served a small piece of lime cheesecake that was also super yummy. Jared doesn’t even like lime desserts and he ate all of his (much to my dismay).

The ride back was much smoother, but I did get nauseous again toward the end. Luckily we were almost back by that point. We found the best thing to do was get a spot in the back of the boat. We avoided most of the spray from the waves that soaked the people on the front of the boat, and it was the smoothest place to be on the boat with regard to rough waves.

On the ride back we saw a beautiful sunset and came across a pod of spinner dolphins who played in our boat’s wake! They were really putting on a show for us!

The dinner cruise was Jared’s favorite part of the entire trip. He loved seeing all the incredible views of the mountainous coast because it’s so unlike anything we have in Florida. I loved the cruise too, I just wish I had been feeling better. Overall, we would 100% recommend his cruise to anyone else going to Kauai. Between the views and the food, it was well worth the money.
